The PADI Emergency First Response (EFR) course is a comprehensive, internationally recognized CPR and first aid training program designed for lay rescuers. It prepares you to provide immediate care in the critical moments between an emergency occurring and the arrival of professional medical services.
Course Structure
The full program typically combines two core components:
- Primary Care (CPR): Focuses on life-threatening emergencies. You'll learn scene assessment, how to alert emergency services, airway management, rescue breathing, CPR (including chest compressions), AED (Automated External Defibrillator) use, serious bleeding control, shock management, and spinal injury management.
- Secondary Care (First Aid): Covers non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. Topics include injury and illness assessment, bandaging, splinting, and providing care that eases pain until help arrives.
Many participants complete both sections together for full certification.
What You'll Learn
- Hands-on skills — Practice CPR, bandaging, splinting, and patient assessment through realistic scenarios.
- Knowledge development — Study through manuals, videos, and instructor-led discussions on emergency response principles.
- Confidence building — Training emphasizes a positive, supportive environment to reduce stress and increase your willingness to act.
