PADI Divemaster Internship

Turn your passion for scuba diving into a professional career with the PADI Divemaster Internship — the first step into the world of dive leadership.

Unlike a short Divemaster course, the internship format immerses you in the daily operations of a working PADI dive center. You'll train alongside experienced instructors while gaining real-world hands-on experience guiding dives, assisting with student training, and supporting all aspects of dive operations. This extended, practical approach builds exceptional confidence, situational awareness, and leadership skills that employers value.

What You'll Learn and Do

  • Refine your personal diving skills (buoyancy, navigation, rescue, and more) to professional standards.
  • Master dive planning, risk management, and problem-solving in real conditions.
  • Learn to lead and supervise certified divers on fun dives and tours.
  • Assist PADI Instructors with beginner and continuing education courses, including confined water and open water sessions.
  • Gain experience in dive center operations: equipment maintenance, boat handling, customer service, briefings, and logistics.
  • Develop strong leadership and role-model qualities while promoting safe, responsible, and conservation-minded diving.

Many programs also incorporate additional workshops on topics like night diving, gear sales, fill station management, or marine conservation.

Why Choose the Internship Format?

The internship typically runs over 6–12 weeks (or longer, depending on the program and your availability), giving you far more repetition and real-world exposure than a condensed course. You'll log dozens of dives, work as a valued team member from day one, and build the practical experience that makes you job-ready upon certification. Many graduates secure employment at the same center or use the contacts and skills to work worldwide.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age: 18 (Junior Divemaster available at 15 in some cases)
  • PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent)
  • PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent)
  • At least 40 logged dives (often 60 by completion)
  • Current Emergency First Response (CPR/First Aid/AED/Oxygen Provider) training
  • Medical clearance from a physician

If you're starting from beginner level, Midwest Scuba Center offers a full "zero to Divemaster" packages that include the necessary prior courses.
